DEERC D50 – Cheap Wi-Fi FPV Drone with 2K Camera
The DEERC D50 is an affordable drone with 2K camera for beginners. The quadcopter is capable of FPV live image transmission and comes with 2 batteries for a total of up to 24 minutes of flight time.
Design and weight
Except for two light gray lines on the chassis, the exterior of the DEERC D50 is all black. This also applies to the landing gear, the propellers and the propeller guards.
With its dimensions of 31.5 x 31.5 x 10.66 cm, the DEERC D50 is neither particularly compact nor overly large. Even though the weight of the drone is only 178 grams, you may need a drone registration number to operate it in some countries.
The landing gear and propeller guards can be easily attached and detached depending on the terrain you are flying the drone in. For example, if you want to fly the DEERC D50 indoors, it is definitely recommended to install the propeller guards. On the one hand, this protects the drone in case of contact with furniture or walls, and on the other hand, the prop guards also protect bystanders from injuries caused by the rotors. Therefore, the drone can also be recommended as a drone for kids.
The landing gear should be mounted especially during take-offs and landings on uneven terrain, so as to protect the rotors from blades of grass or other obstacles. On the other hand, the landing gear also protects the drone from damage in case of crashes and should therefore remain permanently attached in our opinion.
For good visibility of the drone in the sky, there are four LEDs below the motors, two LEDs at the rear and one large LED at the front of the drone.
Equipment and flight characteristics
The control of the DEERC D50 works either classically with the supplied remote control or also exclusively via smartphone, via the “Deerc FPV” app, which is available for download free of charge for Android and iOS devices in the respective app store.
We recommend that you control the drone with the controller, especially in the beginning, as the app control requires some practice.
Since the quadcopter does not have a GPS module, the drone drifts slightly in windy conditions and you have to countersteer manually to keep it in one position. Therefore, we recommend that you only fly the drone in calm or light winds if possible.
Once in the air, you have four different speeds to choose from, which can be selected via a switch on the controller. Unfortunately, the D50 does not have an RTH mode, but the drone warns you when the battery level is too low with a loud beep, signaling that you should land.
Additional functions of the DEERC D50
Anyone who wants to perform acrobatic flight maneuvers with the DEERC D50 can do so simply by pressing a button. The drone is capable of 360° flips, which it can perform in various directions. The corresponding button is located on the top of the remote control.
Another nice extra is the possibility of gesture control, for triggering photos and video recording. To take a photo of yourself, simply form the fingers of one hand into the “Victory” sign. To start video recording, just make a simple wave motion.
In addition to the gesture function, the D50 drone also has voice control. The following commands let the drone execute corresponding maneuvers: “Fly”, “Land”, “Forward”, “Backward”, “Left”, “Right”.
Flight time and range
The flight time of the DEERC D50 is about 12 minutes – per battery. Since the drone comes with two 1500 mAh, 3.7 V batteries from the factory, you get a total of about 24 minutes of flight before the batteries need to be recharged via the included USB charging cable. One charging process takes about 90 minutes.
The range of the drone is about 330 feet (100 meters). Please note, however, that obstacles such as buildings or trees can affect the quality of the radio transmission. In order to take advantage of the maximum range, it is best to fly in an open field, far away from obstacles.
The remote control
The remote control is relatively large and has a removable smartphone holder and a small LCD display that shows speed and battery status.
On the front of the controller, apart from the two control joysticks, are the power button and a button for automatic takeoff and landing. Two shoulder buttons are found on the top. The left button lets you take photos and videos, while the right button executes the 3D flips. Pressing both shoulder buttons at the same time activates the emergency stop function, which makes the drone’s motors stop instantly.
The buttons for headless mode, calibration, trimming, and speed levels are located on the back of the remote control.
The camera of the DEERC D50
The 2K camera of the DEERC D50 records videos in 2048 x 1152p. Since the drone unfortunately does not have a gimbal for image stabilization, the videos are always slightly shaky and the quality is more like 1080p recordings. Still, the recordings are very decent for a drone under 100 dollars.
The camera’s viewing angle is 120°, which makes it extremely wide-angle. The camera can be tilted vertically by 90° before flight to allow for different perspectives when shooting.
Photos are taken by the drone in 1920 x 1080p. Since it does not have an SD card slot, photos and videos are stored directly on the smartphone.
By the way, those who mainly want to fly and not film can easily detach the camera and thus benefit from an even longer flight time. In our opinion, this is an extremely practical feature that can only be found on very few drones.
Flight modes
The DEERC D50 has the option of drawing a flight route on the smartphone display (Tap Fly mode) before the flight within the app, which is then flown automatically by the drone.
Especially drone beginners will also be happy about the so-called Headless Mode, in which you as a pilot have a simplified control of the drone at your disposal.
In Headless Mode, it doesn’t matter which direction the drone is facing in the sky when you give a control command to the left, right, front or back. The drone will always fly in the desired direction, regardless of whether the front or rear of the drone is currently facing you. So there is no need to rethink due to the orientation here.
However, we recommend that you only fly in headless mode for as short a time as possible and also learn the normal controls, as by no means every drone has headless mode.

Conclusion
The DEERC D50 is an affordable camera drone with live FPV transmission, headless mode and about 12 minutes of flight time per battery. The drone can be flown both indoors and outdoors, and thanks to the landing gear and propeller protectors, it almost always survives light collisions unscathed.
We really like the fact that it comes with two batteries. The detachable camera is also a plus point, as it allows for even longer flight times.
The quality of the photo and video recordings is very decent for a drone for beginners, but of course not comparable with a more expensive camera drone and gimbal.
Overall, the DEERC D50 is an excellent camera drone for beginners who want to gain their first experience with drones and are looking for a cheap and stable quadcopter for first flight experiences!
