KIDOMO F02 Mini – Small Quadcopter with HD Camera

The KIDOMO F02 Mini is a foldable mini drone with Full HD camera and is best suited for beginners or as a drone for children. It comes with two batteries at once, offering up to 24 minutes of flight time in total.

Design and weight

The dark gray mini quadcopter has foldable outriggers and can therefore be folded to save space for transport. When folded, it measures just 8 x 6.5 x 3 cm. When unfolded, it measures 10 x 12.5 x 3 cm. With a weight of less than 200 grams, it is also relatively light.

You can fly the drone both indoors and outdoors, although you should preferably only launch it there in calm or light winds, otherwise the drone can easily drift away.

Made of sturdy ABS plastic, the KIDOMO F02 Mini will survive most collisions unscathed. Thanks to the four optional attachable propeller guards, the rotors are additionally protected when they come into contact with obstacles, and bystanders also benefit from this safety feature. Therefore, the KIDOMO F02 Mini can also be recommended as a drone for children, even though they should only fly under parental supervision up to the age of 14.

On the front of the drone, you’ll find two bright LEDs that help you keep front and back well apart during flight.

The handy remote control has a clickable mount for attaching a smartphone, on which the live image from the drone’s camera can be viewed.

By the way, the control joysticks of the controller can be removed to make the remote control even more compact for transport. The drone and controller can be transported in the foam-padded carrying case that is included.

Features and flight characteristics

One-touch takeoff & landing, altitude hold & headless mode.

Once you have correctly attached the four propellers to the drone, you can turn on the small flying device and then the remote control. After that, calibrate the internal gyroscope with the help of the left control stick and you are ready to take off.

Takeoff and landing of the KIDOMO F02 Mini work quite simply at the push of a button. Once in the air, the small multicopter automatically maintains the current flight altitude (Altitude Hold) without the need to permanently press the thrust control.

If the drone drifts in one direction while hovering, this can be remedied by pressing the four trim buttons. In flight, you have three different speeds to choose from. This way, you can first slowly get used to handling the drone before switching to the fastest mode.

Should you ever lose control of the drone, the motors can be brought to an instant halt with the help of the emergency stop button.

By the way, the KIDOMO F02 Mini can also be controlled just with your own smartphone, without any controller at all. However, we recommend beginners in particular to use the remote control, as this gives you more control over the copter.

Flight time and range

The flight time of the KIDOMO F02 Mini is about 8 to 12 minutes per battery. Since the drone comes with two 3.7 V, 600 mAh batteries at once, you can enjoy up to 24 minutes of flying fun in total before both batteries need to be re-powered via the included USB charging cable.

One charging process takes about 40 minutes. To do so, either connect the charging cable directly to a PC, laptop or power bank, or connect it to your smartphone’s charger.

A red LED on the charging cable provides information about the charging status during charging. If the LED goes out, the battery is fully charged.

The control range is about 16 yards (15 meters). That doesn’t sound like much, but it should be sufficient, especially for indoor use.

The camera of the KIDOMO F02

The camera of the KIDOMO F02.

The Full HD camera of the KIDOMO F02 Mini takes photos and videos in 1920 x 1080 pixels. The camera cannot be adjusted, so it always records at the preset angle. Videos have a frame rate of 20 fps and show solid quality for drones in this price range.

However, since the drone does not have a gimbal for image stabilization, the footage will always be a bit shaky. As expected, the KIDOMO F02 Mini does not come close to the quality of more expensive drones with cameras. Naturally, you have to spend much more money for stabilized shots in high quality.

Your recordings are stored directly on the smartphone; the drone does not have an SD card slot.

If you want to view the live image (FPV) of the camera on your smartphone, you first have to download and install the app “WiFi_CAM”. The app is available for free download in the respective app store for both Android and iOS devices.

Flight Modes

While the KIDOMO F02 Mini does not have any sophisticated flight modes like Active Track (Follow Me) or similar, it does handle a headless mode, rudimentary waypoint navigation, and voice and gesture control. A 3D flip function is also available.

A simplified control is available in the headless mode. Normally, you always need to know which direction the drone is facing instantaneously when changing directions – this is not the case in Headless Mode. The KIDOMO F02 Mini will always fly in the direction you push it, no matter how it is currently oriented.

However, we recommend that you don’t fly in Headless Mode for too long and also learn the normal controls, as not all drones have Headless Mode by a long shot.

Gesture control includes two different commands. If you hold your outstretched palm towards the drone, it will trigger a photo. To start a video, you have to hold your fist in front of the camera.

360° overshoots at the touch of a button.

The built-in voice control works only in English and is capable of the following commands: “take off”, “land”, “forward”, “backward”, “left”, “right”.

To perform flips in different directions, you simply move the 3D flip button and then move the right control stick in the desired direction.

Conclusion

The KIDOMO F02 Mini is a solid drone for beginners and is great for gaining your first experience with multicopters. Thanks to the included propeller guards, the model is also suitable for children from about 10 years old.

The quality of the Full HD camera recordings is not outstanding, but for such an inexpensive drone it is perfectly fine. We really like the fact that the F02 Mini comes with two batteries for a total of up to 24 minutes of flight time. The low range of only about 16 yards (15 meters) is quite sufficient for indoor flights, but you will quickly reach its limits outdoors.

Extras such as a take-off and landing at the push of a button, a headless mode, voice and gesture control and also the 3D flip function make the KIDOMO F02 Mini a good entry-level drone with a high fun factor. All in all, we can recommend the model especially to beginners and wish you a lot of fun flying it!
