The Parrot Bebop Drone 2 is here. The successor of the popular Parrot Bebop comes in a similar design, but has a few successful innovations. The most important one right at the beginning – the flight time of the Bebop 2 has been increased to a whopping 25 minutes and is a real argument if you are considering buying the Parrot Bebop 2.

Together with the integrated fisheye lens, this makes extended flights with HD camera footage possible. The Bebop 2 is not only Parrot’s flagship, but is also one of the most popular drones in its price range. Operation via smartphone or optional Skycontroller, 14 MP camera and the latest sensor technology – the Parrot Bebop 2 has so much to offer.

Control of the Parrot Bebop 2

Like its predecessor, the Parrot Bebop 2 is controlled via smartphone or tablet. The required FreeFlight 3 app is available for download on the manufacturer’s website and enables intuitive control of the Bebop 2. The quadcopter can be controlled up to a range of about 330 yards (300 m); those who are looking for even greater distances should go for the version with Skycontroller (can be selected on the Amazon page).

The Skycontroller offers joysticks for comfortable operation of the drone and has a holder for smartphones and tablets. The range of the Parrot Bebop 2 is thus extended up to 1.24 miles (2 km) (Attention: In many countries, a drone may only be flown on sight!). For navigation, the Bebop 2 uses GPS as well as the Russian equivalent GLOSNASS.

Equipment and Camera

The battery of the Parrot Bebop 2 has been increased from 1200 mAh in the previous model to now 2700 mAh, ensuring a much longer flight time. The total weight of the drone is 499 g, which is about 100 g more than the Bebop. By the way, according to Parrot, the Bebop 2 withstood wind speeds of up to 39.8 mph (64 km/h) in a wind tunnel test.

The camera of the Bebop 2 records videos in Full HD and photos with 14 MP. The photos can be recorded either in JPEG or RAW format. With the help of image editing programs like Adobe Lightroom, the pictures can be edited and improved afterwards. The data is stored on an 8 GB internal memory. In addition to a 3-axis gyroscope, other stabilization systems ensure blur-free pictures. These include acceleration, ultrasonic and pressure sensors, a magnetometer and a small camera on the underside of the drone.
