Potensic A20W – Rugged mini drone with camera
The Potensic A20W is a robust mini drone with camera and FPV live image transmission. The mini quadcopter is suitable for all beginners and also for children who want to gain their first experience with drones.
Design and weight
The drone, which measures just 9 x 8 x 3.2 cm, is completely black. With a weight of just 25.8 grams, the Potensic A20W is also extremely light and should therefore only be flown indoors if possible. When flying outdoors, you should make sure that conditions are as windless as possible.
The rotor guard protects both bystanders and the drone itself in case of collisions. Thanks to the compact dimensions, the low weight as well as the permanently installed 360° propeller protection, the Potensic A20W is therefore also suitable as a drone for kids without hesitation.
Equipped with three different speed levels (L / M / H), you can adjust the flying speed of the drone according to your preferences.
Features and flight characteristics
The Potensic A20W can be controlled either via the included 2.4 GHz remote control or simply with your own smartphone (G-Sensor Mode). If you only connect your smartphone to the drone, you can control the Potensic A20W intuitively by tilting the phone.
When using the controller, you can resort to physical joysticks and attach your smartphone to the remote control at the same time, allowing you to view the live FPV image from the drone’s camera.
By the way, the 2.4 GHz remote control still requires 4 AA batteries or rechargeable batteries, which are not included.
Takeoff and landing are as simple as pressing a button. When the mini drone is in the air, it automatically maintains the current altitude thanks to the built-in barometer – a feature that is by no means found on all mini drones.
And an emergency stop function has also been thought of. If you press the takeoff/landing button for longer than 1 second, the drone’s motors stop instantly.
Headless mode and flight paths
Especially beginners will be happy about the so-called Headless mode of the Potensic A20W. In this mode, simplified control is available to you. If you execute a control command to the left, right, front or rear in headless mode, the drone will always fly in the desired direction, regardless of whether the front or rear of the drone is facing you. So there is no need to rethink based on the orientation of the drone here.
However, we recommend that you don’t fly in Headless mode for too long and also learn the normal controls, as not all drones have Headless mode by a long shot.
Another feature is the possibility to draw a flight path in the app before the flight, which the drone then flies independently. This feature, which is otherwise only known from larger drones with cameras, is a nice gimmick, but not very easy to use.
Flight time and range
The flight time of the Potensic A20W is about 5 to 7 minutes, depending on how fast you fly with the drone and whether you use the camera during the flight. Since the drone comes with two batteries from the factory, you can enjoy up to 14 minutes of flying fun before the 3.7 V, 180 mAh batteries need to be recharged via USB charging cable.
Charging takes about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on what kind of power adapter you use. Simply connect the included USB charging cable to an existing power adapter, such as the one on your smartphone, PC, or simply a power bank. During the charging process, a small red LED lights up on the battery. When the battery is fully charged again, the LED lights up green.
Tip: Try not to overcharge the batteries and disconnect them from the power bank as soon as possible after successful charging. This will ensure that the batteries last as long as possible.
By the way, so that you don’t suddenly crash with the Potensic A20W when the battery is empty, an acoustic warning sounds when the charge level is low, alerting you to land the drone.
The mini-drone can be controlled at distances of about 16 to 33 yards (15 to 30 meters). That’s not much, but it’s still sufficient for controlling it in your own four walls or in the garden.
If you move too far away from the remote control with the drone, the Potensic A20W warns you with a beep from the controller.
The camera of the Potensic A20W
Unlike most mini drones, the Potensic A20W has a small camera on the front of the drone. The built-in camera can take photos as well as videos (480p) and transfer them to the smartphone in real time.
The photos and videos are stored directly on the smartphone in the gallery. The Potensic A20W does not have an SD card slot. The quality of the camera shots is very decent for a mini drone of this price. However, the pictures cannot compete with the results of larger camera drones.

Thanks to the permanently installed rotor protection, the risk of injury to bystanders is very low and the drone is also thus protected in the event of collisions with walls or furniture.
The camera can take photos and videos, which are stored directly on the own smartphone. The quality of the recordings is okay, but of course nowhere near the quality of larger camera drones.
All in all, the Potensic A20W is an extremely good mini drone with a great fun factor and is highly recommended for young and old!
