Syma X300 – Drone with 2 batteries for up to 40 minutes of flight

The Syma X300 is a solid entry-level drone at a fair price. The drone has a Full HD camera and can stream the live image in real time to your smartphone.

It comes with two batteries that allow up to 20 minutes of flight time each and can be controlled within a radius of about 110 yards (100 meters).

Design and weight

On the outside, the Syma X300 comes in a noble black and gold color. The chic chassis is well-made and makes a noble impression.

The drone can be folded for transport, so that it can be carried in a space-saving manner. When unfolded, it measures 32 x 32 x 5 cm and is thus medium-sized.

With a weight of about 150 grams, it is a real lightweight. Included with the Syma X300 are four attachable and detachable plastic brackets to protect the propellers. The rotor guards are attached below the rotors and protect the drone from damage in case of collisions with objects. Bystanders are also protected from the rapidly spinning rotors.

Features and flight characteristics

Takeoff & landing of the Syma X300.

The Syma X300 can be controlled either via the supplied remote control or via app, only with the smartphone. Takeoff and landing work beginner-friendly at the push of a button. During takeoff, the drone climbs to an altitude of about 4 feet (1.2 meters) and then remains in hover flight.

Once in the air, the quadcopter automatically maintains the current altitude without you having to constantly push. As for the speed, there are two different modes to choose from.

While the Syma X300 doesn’t have a GPS module for positioning, it does have an Optical Flow Positioning System. This consists of a small camera on the underside of the drone that permanently films the ground and thus stabilizes the drone in the air.

In general, the drone can be controlled precisely and stably, even in moderate wind.

The quadcopter does not have a Return to home mode. This means that it has to be flown manually over the desired landing position. To bring the drone to the ground or a landing pad, if available, you can either use the landing button or manually set it to land.

The app for controlling or displaying the live image of the drone is available for free download in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The remote control still requires four AA batteries, which are not included.

Flight time and range

The flight time of the Syma X300 is about 15 to 20 minutes per battery. Since the drone comes with two batteries (3.7 V, 1500 mAh) from the factory, you can enjoy up to 40 minutes of flight time before the batteries need to be recharged via USB charging cable. One charging process takes about 2 hours.

By the way, the remote control warns you with an alarm signal if the battery level is too low, so you don’t run the risk of the drone accidentally crashing uncontrollably.

Since the Syma X300 does not require GPS or does not have GPS, you can fly with it both outdoors and indoors. The range is about 110 yards (100 meters).

Especially drone newbies will be happy about the so-called Headless mode. If you activate this mode, simplified control is available. Normally, it is important for control commands whether straight front or tail of the drone point to you. In headless mode, it doesn’t matter and the drone will always fly in the direction you press.

However, we don’t recommend you to fly in headless mode for too long, but to learn the normal controls of the drone as well, since not all drones have headless mode.

A nice extra is the possibility to let the drone perform rollovers (3D flips) at the push of a button.

The camera of the Syma X300

The camera of the Syma X300.

The camera of the Syma X300 takes photos and videos in Full HD (1080p) at 25 fps. The camera’s field of view is 110°, which makes it wide-angle.

The camera is fixed and cannot be adjusted. The quality of the recordings is quite good for a drone in this price range. However, if you are looking for a drone for high-quality video recordings, you should rather go for a drone with a camera with a mechanical 3-axis gimbal.

The recorded videos can be viewed directly in the app and can also be shared immediately via social media if desired. The files are stored on the user’s smartphone.
